Strong versus Weak adjectives

An adjective is a word that describes a noun. Like happy or big.

Let’s take an example.

Yuka is cold.

Cold is a weak adjective because we can’t clearly imagine how cold Yuka is feeling. You might think there’s snow around her and she’s shivering..whereas I might think she just needs a jacket and she’ll be fine.

Such adjectives are called weak adjectives. If we want to be a good writer, we must try to use strong adjectives whenever possible. For example -

Yuka is cold.

Yuka is freezing.

Riku is very happy.

Riku is ecstatic.

She looks very tired.

She looks exhausted.
